Compare hypochlorous acid (HOCl) manufacturers against the same product requirements, then examine what each supplier’s reply actually supports. Match the information received to your proposed formulation, packaging and work. Separate unanswered questions from confirmed mismatches, and record what must be resolved before you advance a supplier.
This guide starts after you have received replies. One manufacturer may send a detailed packet; another may answer briefly and flag a limitation. Compare what each reply establishes about your project. A longer response can still leave the decisive question unanswered.
If you have not described the project yet, start with the HOCl manufacturing quote brief. If you are choosing the type of manufacturing work, use the white label, private label and contract manufacturing comparison.
What does a manufacturer’s answer actually confirm?
Start with one requirement and the supplier’s exact answer. Preserve its source, date and version so you can distinguish the current response from an earlier discussion.
Consider the difference between these illustrative answers: “We review customer-supplied packaging” and “We have accepted the bottle and sprayer identified in your current project scope.” The first describes a service. The second states a decision about a particular assembly. You would still need to establish what that acceptance covers and which supporting review has been completed.
The evidence needed depends on the question. A project scope that names who approves changes can document an assigned responsibility. It does not show how that party has performed on previous orders. A formulation sheet can identify the proposed product without demonstrating its performance.
For each requirement, write one of three conclusions:
- Supported for this question: state exactly what the reply and supporting material establish.
- Still open: name the missing answer or review. A promised document or scheduled review belongs here.
- Confirmed mismatch: cite the supplier’s explicit answer that conflicts with a requirement you consider essential.
A missing answer is not a confirmed mismatch. Keep it open unless further information resolves it. Equally, do not mark an item complete because the supplier agrees to look into it.
Does the information cover your proposed HOCl product?
Follow the connection between the supplier’s answer and the material it sends. Does the formulation identifier in the reply match the sheet? Is the packaging described the bottle and sprayer you intend to use? Does the information identify the current version of the proposed work?
For an HOCl mist, information about the liquid formulation, a sample in another package and the proposed finished product can concern different things. Ask the supplier to explain the connection when it is unclear. A matching identifier helps establish which product the records describe; it does not prove performance or suitability for your intended use.
If the material concerns a different package, record that difference and ask who can assess whether it applies to your proposed product. Do not assume that the difference either invalidates the information or makes no difference. Have someone qualified to assess that technical question review the gap before you rely on the material. For the package question, see our guide to reviewing the proposed bottle and sprayer assembly.
Keep the conclusion narrow enough that another person can trace it. “The reply and sheet identify the same proposed formulation” is a usable finding. “Product verified” would imply much more than that check established.
Worked example: compare two manufacturers’ replies
This example is fictional. Both suppliers, all replies and all documents below are invented to demonstrate the comparison method. They do not describe HOCl Connect or another manufacturer.
A beauty brand has defined an HOCl mist and chosen a bottle/sprayer assembly that it considers essential. The brand also needs to identify the proposed formulation and who approves production changes. Both suppliers receive those same requirements.
| Requirement | Fictional Supplier A | Fictional Supplier B |
|---|---|---|
| Chosen assembly | Cannot use it; offers another sprayer. Mismatch. | Review pending, with a reviewer named. Still open. |
| Proposed formula | No link stated between formula sheet and proposal. Still open. | Reply and sheet use the same formula identifier. Identity link only. |
| Change approval | Scope names who approves changes and how approval is recorded. Responsibility stated. | Mentions a production partner but assigns no approval owner. Still open. |
Supplier A has a clear answer about change approval, but its proposed assembly does not meet the brand’s essential requirement. Set A aside for this project as currently defined. That decision says nothing about A’s ability to serve a different project.
Supplier B remains a candidate for follow-up. Its consistent formulation identifier resolves one record-checking question; it does not establish performance or suitability. Its assembly review and change-approval responsibility are still unresolved. Referring to a production partner is not itself a negative finding; the missing responsibility assignment is the issue to clarify.
The next request to B is specific: provide the outcome of the assembly review, including any conditions, and identify who approves production changes. Another promise to review leaves the assembly question open. An answer that the assembly cannot be used establishes a mismatch. Acceptance with conditions needs review of those conditions before the buyer can treat the requirement as met.
Neither supplier is shown to be ready for a production order. B remains under consideration while the buyer resolves the open questions. If the brand decides a different sprayer is acceptable, record the revised requirement and compare both suppliers against it again.
What if information is missing, confidential or contradictory?
For missing information, ask for the exact connection or decision you need. In the example, asking A to connect the formulation sheet to its proposal would resolve a different question from asking whether it can use the chosen sprayer. More documents would not, by themselves, change its explicit assembly limitation.
For confidential information, discuss an appropriate way to review what matters. That could involve an NDA, a redacted document or review by an agreed specialist. An NDA request is not a failure, and a redacted document is not automatically sufficient. Record what the available material establishes and what remains unanswered.
For conflicting information, identify the two statements and ask the supplier to reconcile them. For example, an email may name one proposed assembly while the scope names another. Keep both references in your notes until the supplier identifies the current version and clarifies what changed. Do not silently choose the version you prefer.
When an essential question remains unresolved, you can pause the next commitment and state the reason plainly. “We cannot complete our review of this requirement with the information available” describes your decision without making an unsupported judgment about the supplier’s quality or honesty.
Record the supplier decision and the next condition
Finish with a short record for each supplier. Use the sources you actually received, and name the person who assessed technical material where that judgment was needed.
- Supplier and next step: advance the evaluation, request a specific follow-up, or set aside for this project.
- Reason: the requirement, the supplier’s answer and the source/date/version supporting your conclusion.
- Open condition: what needs to be resolved before the next commitment, and who is reviewing it.
- Reconsider if: the requirement changes or new information changes the conclusion.
Keep the original replies alongside the decision record. When an answer changes, update the conclusion and preserve the earlier source so the reason for the change remains clear. For the economic comparison, see our guide to comparing manufacturing proposal costs.
This method applies to HOCl Connect too. If you are considering us, tell us which project requirement you need clarified so the discussion can address the answer you still need.
