At HOCl Connect, choose white label when an existing hypochlorous acid (HOCl) formulation fits your product, private label when you need us to develop a formulation, and contract manufacturing when you bring a formulation or specification for us to review and produce.
The difficult cases sit between those descriptions. A brand may bring its own bottles but need an existing formula. Another may have a target concentration without having decided who will develop the product. The work still needed determines which program to discuss.
Which requirement is driving your choice?
Start with the requirement that makes you hesitate between programs. This separates work on the formula from packaging requests and commercial terms.
| Your main requirement | What it means for program selection |
|---|---|
| Put your branding on an existing product | Check whether the existing formula and standard packaging fit the white-label program. |
| Meet formula requirements outside the existing options | Establish whether you need formulation development or want production to a specification you supply. |
| Use bottles or components you supply | Confirm whether those components can be accommodated. Packaging responsibility alone does not identify the formulation work. |
| Obtain exclusive use of a formula or product | Ask what exclusivity is offered. The program name does not describe those terms. |
These are HOCl Connect’s program definitions. Other suppliers may use the names differently. Have them describe the actual work before treating two similarly named offers as equivalent.
If your business needs liquid supply and has separate arrangements for filling or use, discuss bulk HOCl. That is a separate purchasing route from commissioning a finished branded product.
Do you have a reference product, development targets or a supplied specification?
Be precise about what you bring to the manufacturer. These three starting points lead to different conversations:
- A reference product shows what you have in mind. Explain which aspects matter to you; supplying a bottle to look at does not establish the formulation inside it.
- Development targets describe what you want the product to meet. Identify which requirements are fixed and where you want help defining the formulation.
- A supplied formulation or specification gives the manufacturer something to assess for production. Identify its version and any open items so the team knows what you expect it to follow.
A concentration target alone leaves other requirements unresolved. A supplied specification can also have gaps. Ask the manufacturer to identify whether the proposal covers formulation development, production to your supplied information, or a combination that needs further definition.
That discussion separates private label from contract manufacturing more usefully than calling a product “custom.” It also avoids assuming that a specification has been accepted merely because you sent it for review.
Four borderline projects and how to approach them
The following examples are hypothetical. Each shows a different reason that the program name alone may be insufficient.
Custom bottles with an existing formulation
A beauty brand is happy to use an existing HOCl formulation but wants a distinctive bottle it plans to supply. The formula points toward white label; the packaging request still needs a separate scope decision.
Ask whether the manufacturer can accommodate those components while using the existing formulation. HOCl Connect’s white-label program starts with standard packaging options, so a requested bottle should not be assumed to be included or accepted. Buying your own bottles does not, by itself, establish a need for formulation development.
A requirement the existing formula cannot meet
A brand has a required product specification outside the available formula options and wants help developing a formulation to meet it. Discuss private label and explain exactly which requirement rules out the existing option.
Separate must-have requirements from preferences. If the existing formulation can satisfy the must-haves and the brand is willing to change a preference, white label may remain an option. If the requirement stays fixed, the development scope needs review. Increasing the order quantity alone will not make the existing formulation meet a different specification.
A supplied formulation with a 5,000-unit order
A company brings its formulation and wants a manufacturer to produce 5,000 units to that specification. The requested work points toward contract manufacturing, but the quantity is below HOCl Connect’s 10,000-unit minimum.
Calling the same work “private label” would not make it qualify for a different program’s minimum. The company can discuss increasing the run, reconsidering whether it needs its supplied formulation, or finding a supplier whose scope and minimum fit. Switching to an existing formulation would change the product decision and require a fresh comparison against the company’s requirements.
An exclusive product without a defined formula change
A brand asks for private label because it wants a product competitors cannot buy. Before commissioning development, it needs to explain what it wants to be exclusive: the formula, a packaging design, use in a particular market, or another part of the offer.
Ask whether that exclusivity is available and how it would be described in the agreement. Discuss ownership, permitted use and any production-transfer terms explicitly. Custom formulation work alone does not answer what exclusivity the supplier is offering. HOCl Connect offers NDAs for confidential discussions; any requested exclusivity still needs a separate commercial answer.
Check the minimum after identifying the work
HOCl Connect’s minimums are 1,000 units per SKU for white label, 3,000 units per SKU for private label, and 10,000 units for contract manufacturing. For contract manufacturing, discuss your proposed product mix when requesting a quote rather than assuming a per-SKU rule.
Treat quantity as a second check on a program that fits the work. A lower minimum may be attractive, but choosing it requires a product that fits that program. State the route and the unresolved condition together
You should be able to explain both why a program fits and what still needs an answer. For the custom-bottle example, that might be:
“We want to use an existing HOCl formulation. We plan to supply our own bottle, so we need to confirm whether that packaging can be accommodated and how it changes the scope.”
That gives the manufacturer a specific decision to make. If your route is still unclear, send us your formulation starting point and the requirement you are trying to resolve. You do not need to force the project into a program name before that discussion.
